Nilaveli a beautiful beach, which is also known as the Open land of the moon-shine, is a coastal resort town with a population of about 100,000 , located just 275km away from Colombo, in the Trincomalee district in Eastern province of Sri Lanka.

Nilaveli the moon-land is very famous for the Bay of Nilaveli's harbour, beach, Hindu and Buddhist sites with a historical importance. 

Nilaveli coastline which is more intimate than Uppuveli, and one of the most beautiful beaches in Sri Lanka, is frequented mostly by locals in holidays more than foreigners.

While this attractive seashore is renowned for its soft white sand, also very famous for water sports which are mostly popular among foreigners even locals such as scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing etc. Visiting Nilaveli during April and October months are highly recommended.
