8th world wonder #sigiriya


Sigiriya which is also known as Lion's rock is an ancient rock fortress which is located in the Matale district, which is also referred to as the 8th wonder of the world by locals, is located in between the towns of Dambulla and Habarana.

By being the most visited tourist destination in Sri Lanka, this fortress complex which is with historical and high archeological importance, was first selected by King Kashyapa as his new capital and built a palace on the top of this Rock. 

Some believes that this Sigiriya may be Alakamandawa which was build by king Kuwera who was the half brother of king Ravana comes in the Ramayanaya before 50 centuries ago. 

Frescoes in the walls of this rock fortress with a unique painting style, are also very popular among the Sigiriya visitors.
